#4. Words

Words are only words.

They say that the pen is mightier than the sword.
They believe that words have changed destinies.
They agree that words have settled the many.
They resolve that the written holds superior.

A word can hold for a long time.
It can root itself deep into the grounds of your reveries.
The amazing mind never forgets it.
It remains latent.

Words can hurt and can flatter.
Their bane existence is questioned.
A life with no words is a life with no meaning.
The confusion prevailing would disrupt society for we know.

History has been witness to the rise and fall.
For which words were held merely responsible.
Opinions have varied and have changed.
But, the words… they remain the same.

Notes

‘Words’ is a universal truth.

The idea behind the poem is very vague to me but a conversation with a friend fueled it. The blatant idea is that words cannot be taken back. This free-verse was written very openly by me and very quickly. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you,
Arjun
